Community Emergency Aid
The residents of Canyonleigh decided to begin a program called Canyonleigh Emergency Aid (CEA). They raised funds to purchase 3 defibrillators and the Wingecarribee Council provided funds to train the volunteers on how to use them. The trainees also underwent a Senior First Aid course.
The CEA would not be in existance today if were not for the hard work and dedication of two of its founders, Fiona Vanderbeek and Carolyn Chaplin.
In November 2010, the CEA will be taking a giant step forward and begin training to become First Responders. This means that if someone in Canyonleigh calls an ambulance, the volunteers of Canyonleigh will be paged and be able to respond prior to the ambulance arriving.
To assist the First Responders team your GPS coordinates, rural number, and instructions to get to your home should be given to the 000 operator. In an emergency it is most helpful to know that, for example, the house is 3 kms from the main road and take the left trail when you come to the fork in the road.
It would be handy for yourself to have these instructions written out and on hand beside the phone. In an emergency our minds tend to go blank!
